FOR JAZZ MAN ALEX, ALIAS: 'RAIDER DUDE'...


Alex is a true jazz lover who lives in a real cool place called Chico. Chico is in Northern California. It is home to the famous or infamous (however you want to look at it) Chico State University; one of the top party universities in the world. I'm serious, and if you doubt me, ask any Playboy Magazine reader. But later for party schools.....

Let's get to know Alex. He is a really cool dude. He started to listen to jazz music at about 5 years old and took to it like a duck to a pond filled with water. He especially digs Dexter Gordon, or as he calls him...'my man Dexter'. His favorite tunes by Mr. Gordon are; "Cheesecake", "It's You or No One","Clear the Dex" and "Tanya".

I remember the first time I played one of Dexter Gordon CDs with these music songs on it for Alex, he listened to them a couple of times and then to my amazement, I heard him singing Gordon's saxophone solos almost note for note...this at the tender age of about 5 years. If Alex is not a true jazz man, then I do not know who is.

Alex also digs Miles Davis, but besides these two jazz giants, his real musical love resides with the one and only Michael Jackson...yes, The King of Pop is one of his idols. Alex knows all his songs, can do all his dances; actually, if you ask me, Alex can do a 360 degree spin move as cool as MJ. Hard to believe, but if I did not see him do a spin outside of the Outback Restaurant in Chico one summer evening, I would not believe it myself. I'm telling you, a few cool young ladies (dudettes, he calls them), saw the spin move and were so overcome with emotion that one of them fainted right there on the asphalt...had to be revived with smelling salts and all that stuff...

How do I know all this cool stuff about this young music aficionado?

I'm his dad! Alex was diagnosed at birth with a neurological disorder that mildly affected his motor skills. He is the most warm and genuinely wonderful human one could hope to meet.

These days, Alex is a writer and painter. He excels at both. Oh, one more thing, Alex is a wizard at computer games ... And I mean 'wizard' in the sense of a savant.

Kate McGarry In San Francisco

As part of the San Francisco Jazz Spring Season 2012 , Kate McGarry and her band mates made an appearance at the Swedish American Hall , 2174 Market Street, San Francisco, California on April 20, 2012 for an 8:00 P. M. performance. McGarry was accompanied by Keith Gantz - guitar ; Gary Verace - organ ; Clarence Penn - drums & percussion. Song Stylist Kate McGarry Considering that the Swedish American Hall is not ideally equipped acoustically for music concerts of the type that McGarry and the band performed, the show was well attended and impressive. Judging from the reaction of the audience, who were attentive and engaged throughout the show, McGarry and her band should feel very gratified with their performance and reception. In spite of the venue's obvious shortcomings, they took the show forward as consummate professionals must.
